Position Overview:

Our ideal candidate is an energetic individual who prides him/herself on resolving challenging business and technical issues for a wide variety of customers. The ability to plan strategically and execute tactically in a de-centralized corporate environment, supporting a multi-site operation in 3 provinces is critical to success.

The successful candidate will cost effectively manage the IT needs of the organization ensuring adequate tools are in place or developed to meet the needs of respective departments including communication and collaboration, connectivity, support services, software applications and hardware requirements and disaster recovery and governance controls and documentation.

Business partner to the organization in planning, developing and maintaining the internal customer business systems:

  • Plan coordinate, direct and design IT related activities of the organization
  • Sustainment and optimization of core systems in collaboration with Financial systems & processes team
  • Communication and connectivity tools to enable corporate business objectives
  • Implementation of IT policies, procedures and best practices

IT Strategy

  • Effective strategic IT planning and oversight of IT performance
  • Approving and monitoring major projects, IT budgets, priorities, standards, procedures, and overall IT performance
  • Planning, developing and implementing the ICT budget, obtaining competitive prices from suppliers, to ensure cost effectiveness
  • Developing business case justifications and cost/benefit analysis of IT initiatives
  • Define business and system requirements for new technology implementations
  • Ensuring that Bill 198 Controls are implemented and adhered to

Customer Service

  • Coordinating priorities between the IT department and user departments
  • Providing users with appropriate support and advice
  • Reviewing the adequacy and allocation of IT resources in terms of funding, personnel, equipment, and service levels
  • Ensuring cost effective end user support meets the needs of the user
  • Training


Systems Administration

  • Approving IT vendors used by the organization and monitoring their financial condition
  • Researching and installing new systems and scheduling upgrades and security backups of hardware and software systems
  • Ensuring the smooth running of all ICT systems, including anti-virus software, print services and email provision and ensuring the security of data from internal and external attack
  • Providing secure access to the network for remote users
  • Managing crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems
  • Performing capacity planning, desk top/lap top refresh planning
  • Ensuring adequate disaster recovery and backup solutions are in place

Required Qualifications and Competencies for the Position:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, IS Management or Business
  • Minimum 7 years experience in IT, including at least 2 years in a senior role
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and execution
  • Experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation including cloud based tools and systems.
  • Experience with computer hardware and software systems installation and programs
  • Demonstrable analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Effective verbal, written, presentation and listening communication skills
  • Strong understanding of people management principles such as recruitment, goal setting, and performance management
  • Ability to identify cost effective opportunities/solutions for improvement
  • Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision; drive change, productivity and efficiency
  • Relishes change and is comfortable in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated experience with vendor management
